Website created as a digital research project for the HST-305 course at Michigan State University. The website is designed to illustrate how the United States military trained its soldiers, sailors, and marines for both the Spanish American War and World War One. It also aims to showcase how major events, such as the Punitive Expedition, provided the American military with practical experience. One of the most important elements will be highlighting the various locales for training for the American military during this time period and how these locations played a role in the training of the military. The website also looks into the mobilization challenges faced by the military as well as the other governmental and societal issues at the time America approached declaring war in both 1898 and 1917. These topics are historically significant because they show how the United States could respond to an unstable world, especially when considering the magnitude of the wars. Also, it will be revealed how the United States military developed during these times and how the successes during the Spanish American War and World War One plunged the United States into the center of world affairs and power. Finally, the website will also detail a personal hypothesis concerning this topic.
