Early Engagements
This text illustrates an early engagement of Pancho Villa by American forces at Guerrero. They continue to refer to Villa as a bandit and the article details that the forces exchanged shots with one another. According to the text, Villa has received reinforcements, but General Funston is optimistic that the American troops will be able to handle themselves in combat. General Funston is quoted, "But we are confident our capable men under strong leadership will be able to take care of themselves. Some of our isolated detachments are bound to suffer, but if Villa's troops make a stand against any of our larger forces he will discover their mettle." The paper also indicates that Villa was apparently shot and wounded in the leg.
